Fosters on the Fairgroundí will be a self-published limited run 368-page A4-sized hardback book with over 530 illustrations (33 in colour), detailing the development and working lives of engines built by William Foster & Co. at Lincoln as used by showmen, including many previously unknown facts from Fosterís records. Entering the market in 1904, they became the third largest supplier of engines to travelling showmen, and led development of the ĎScenicí engine. The book details Fosterís development of engines for showmen, including road locomotives, steam tractors and wagons, plus electric light engines Ė and also some unusual early conversions.

Using many sources ĎFosters on the Fairgroundí takes a copiously illustrated look at each engineís working life, ranging from a few lines to pages of text, photographs and other material. Meeting the hard-working owners and drivers, and looking at the rides and shows etc they were used with, brings the working lives of Foster fairground engines to life.
